Ahoy! This here’s Midhir–village of ocean currents. It’s a tranquil village with hot springs. At least, it used to be. Lately, the sea’s been in a tizzy. The ‘Lifestream’ of whatchamacallit’s been stirring things up on the seabed. Looks like the planet’s enraged. Can’t say I’m surprised though, seeing how we’ve been treating it.

On the right side of the town, there is a woman in orange pants.

It was bad enough with earthquakes and Meteor, but to top it all off, the Lifestream’s acting the goat now too. I hope this doesn’t blow up into a big panic like before. That was no laughing matter, I can tell you.

Cid goes inside the Weapon Store...

Stupid key’s snapped off inside. I can’t reach it. …H-hell if I know how it got there!

If Cid walks along the upper walkway and finds the key before knocking on the Weapon Shop door, he’ll bend down…

Huh? Hell’s this? There’s some sorta key stuck here, but I can’t get the damn thing out. Well, what the hell? Who cares?
Cid stands back up.

If he heads back into the Weapon Store and looks at the door again, Cid kicks the door.

No good. Looks like it’s locked.

If Cid heads back outside along the upper walkway, near a man in purple, he will bend down.

That’s it… I’m gonna find a way to get it out! Maybe if I move this, an’ push that… A-HA! Gotcha!
He stands up. Obtained Beat-Up, Useless, Rusty Old Key!

Cid kicks the door.

Cid and party run outside. The ground continues to shake and the lights flash on and off.

W-what the hell is going on!? Is the Lifestream burstin’ up from down below? A monster makes a sound in the distance. Cid turns toward the sound’s direction. Damn, that’s… This is bad!

Tifa runs out of the clinic and stands in the doorway.
​
TIFA
Cid!? What’s wrong!?
​
Cid turns to face Tifa.
​
CID
N-nothin’! Stay inside with Cloud!!
​
TIFA
But I-
​
Cid laughs.
​
CID
Heh. Don’t you worry. Old Cid won’t kick the bucket that easy.

Tifa nods.

TIFA
Be careful!
​
Tifa runs back inside of the clinic. Cid turns back toward the town of Midhir.
​
CID
Okay, here we go… Let’s show it what we got!!
​
Cid and the party members run into town. A Weapon is circling overhead.
​
CID
Dammit! It’s one of them freak Weapons!! Of all the times to show up! Bring it on, you son of a bitch!
​
Ultimate Weapon flies down to meet them. But after a brief battle, it flies off again.
​
CID
Hey! Where’d ya think you’re goin’?
​
The shaking and light flashing stops.
​
BARRETT
Damn. Just a little more an’ we would’ve had him.
​
NANAKI
Grrr… Just a little more and we would have beaten it.
​
YUFFIE
I swear, one of these days I’m gonna kick its face in!

CAIT
Naw matter how many lives ah get, it still wullnae be enough to beat that thing!

The Lifestream’s settled down now, at least.

The ground begins to shake again and Cid looks around.

Ya think!? Th-this is bad… The main current’s gonna blow!? Somethin’ way bigger than the last one’s comin’!! Let’s get out of here!

Idiot! This is no time to worry about others! There’s no tellin’ when the stream’ll blow!
A popping sound goes off.
Whoa!! There’s no time! Hurry!!
They start running away to safety. Cid stops and turns to face the clinic.
Tifa! Cloud! Get the hell outta there!!

Inside the clinic, Tifa looks around seemingly worried.
​
TIFA
This is bad. The tremors are getting worse.
She turns to face Cloud.
Hang on, Cloud.
Tifa runs to the other room with the doctor.
Doctor! Shouldn’t we move outside!?
​
The doctor nods.
​
DOCTOR NPC
Yes… it will be safer in an open area.
​
Tifa runs back to Cloud and kneels in front of him.
​
TIFA
Don’t you worry about a thing, Cloud. I’ll take you somewhere safe!
​
DOCTOR NPC
No! The building can’t take it! We have to hurry!
​
Tifa turns toward the doctor.
​
TIFA
We’re coming!
Tifa stands up and runs behind Cloud’s wheelchair.
Ready, Cloud? Let’s go!

Tifa pushes Cloud and the wheelchair out the door. Tifa runs with Cloud through the street of Midhir. The ground continuously collapses into the Lifestream behind them. Unable to outrun it, Tifa and Cloud fall into the Lifestream as well.

Tifa wakes up alone in darkness.

TIFA
W-where am I? What’s happened to me?
Tifa stands up and looks around in the blackness.
Cloud…? Where’s Cloud!?
Tifa slowly turns around.
Huh? What? Who? Who is it? I can’t hear you.
Tifa suddenly turns around.
Wait a minute! I don’t know what you’re talking about!
Tifa turns around again.
You’re wrong! It wasn’t me! I’d never do anything like that!!
Tifa clasps her head in her hands and shakes it.
No! Stop! Get out of my head!!
Tifa starts to run.
Somebody help! Please!!
Tifa falls to her knees and the world begins to spin.
Cloud! Help me!!
The world spins even faster.
Eyaaaagh!!

Tifa is suddenly transported to a greenish platformed area with three branching paths an image of Cloud sits at the entrance of each path. Another giant, somewhat translucent image of Cloud floats in the air.
​
TIFA
…Where am I?
Tifa looks up at a giant floating translucent version of Cloud.
Cloud!? What’s happened, Cloud? Where the heck are we!?
Tifa looks around.
Are we inside your dreams? Or is this… your mind? You’re searching, aren’t you? Searching… for yourself. I’ll help you. We’ll work together and get the real you back! But… Where do we start?

If Tifa tries to talk to the Cloud sitting at the path that leads to an image the Niblheim water tower…
CLOUD
That starry night by the water tower. The promise… What if it was all just made up?
​
If Tifa tries to talk to the Cloud sitting at the path that leads to an image of an open window…
CLOUD
Secret wishes… …sealed away… All those tender feelings that no-one ever knew.
Eventually, Tifa talks to the Cloud sitting at the path that leads to the entrance of Niblheim.
​
Special Note: Because this scene strings together various flashback moments, I used different names for the different versions of Cloud and Tifa. That way, the reader can hopefully tell them apart more easily.
​
CLOUD
The gates of Niblheim. Five years ago, Sephiroth and Cloud passed under these gates. And… that’s where it all started.
​
Cloud at Niblheim gate path stands up.
​
TIFA
So this leads to Niblheim…
She nods.
Yeah… maybe it’s best that we start there.
Tifa starts to walk to the gate, then turns to face Cloud.
Let’s take a look. I know it’s not easy, but I’m here with you.

The camera zooms in on Niblheim’s entrance. Tifa approaches the gate.
​
TIFA
Cloud, look.
Tifa runs further into Niblheim and nods at the water tower.
Here’s the water tower.
She then takes a couple more steps in the direction of the inn.
And the old guy’s inn.
Tifa runs back toward the screen and stands by the truck near the entrance.
The only truck in the village. It’s been here since we were kids.
Tifa runs even closer and holds her arms out.
This is the Niblheim you remember…
Tifa lowers her arms and nods.
It’s the same as my Niblheim. So, that makes this OUR Niblheim, right?

Cloud materializes, sitting against the truck. Tifa approaches Cloud. Cloud stands up, his head remains slumped and looking away from Tifa.
​
TIFA
Five years ago, two men from Soldier came here.
Tifa takes a few steps away from Cloud and looks at the entrance.
Sephiroth and a young, cheerful person.
Tifa turns to face the screen.
Can you tell me again what happened?
​
An image of Sephiroth materializes. Sephiroth stands at the entrance and moves his body the way that he did during the Kalm Flashback.
​
SEPHIROTH
How does it feel?
​
TIFA
Five years ago– that’s when I saw the real Sephiroth for the first time.
​
SEPHIROTH
It’s been a while since you were back in your hometown, right? So, how does it feel? I wouldn’t know. I don’t have a hometown...
​
YOUNG CLOUD
From off screen.
Um… Then where are your parents?
​
TIFA
…The hero Sephiroth.
​
SEPHIROTH
My mother was called Jenova. She died giving birth to me. My father...
​
Sephiroth begins to laugh.
​
TIFA
The greatest Soldier. Your idol. But, to tell you the truth, he came across rather cold.
​
After laughing, Sephiroth shakes his head.
​
SEPHIROTH
What am I saying? All right, let’s go.
​
Sephiroth takes a few steps into Niblheim.
​
TIFA
I remember feeling a strong sense of foreboding about him.
​
Tifa watches as Young Cloud and two Shin-Ra grunts approach the entrance, same as happened in the Kalm Flashback. The Cloud, who is by the truck, lifts his head up and walks over. He merges with Young Cloud and Tifa shakes her head.
​
TIFA
No, Cloud.
Tifa turns to face away from Cloud.
I’ve been too afraid to say anything. I’ve been hiding it all this time. But not now.
The screen flashes. Sephiroth and the two grunts disappear. Tifa turns to face Cloud.
You weren’t here. Cloud, you didn’t come to Niblheim five years ago.
​
Tifa turns to face the entrance. The screen flashes and a young Tifa from five years ago sits on the ground by the entrance. Cloud slumps his head, facing away.
​
TIFA
I waited, you know. But… you never came.
​
Young Tifa stands up and looks at the entrance.
​
TIFA
The two Soldiers dispatched to Niblheim were Sephiroth and someone else.
​
Young Tifa shakes her head and runs away. Another flash occurs and Sephiroth stands at the entrance again, replaying the Niblheim incident.
​
SEPHIROTH
All right, let’s go.
​
Sephiroth walks into Niblheim. The two Shin-Ra grunts follow, along with a Soldier who has the same sword as Cloud, but long spiked black hair. The screen flashes. Tifa and a now translucent Cloud are transported back outside the memory and standing on the path that lead to it.
​
CLOUD
You mean the member of Soldier who left for Niblheim with Sephiroth… wasn’t Cloud?
​
Tifa turns to face Cloud and shakes her head.
​
TIFA
I’m… not going to say any more.
Tifa turns and takes a couple of steps away from him.
You must find the answer yourself. If you can’t, you’ll…
Tifa turns to face Cloud.
Take your time. Slowly. Little by little, okay?
​
The translucent Cloud sits down. Tifa walks to the Cloud who sits on the path leading to the water tower. That Cloud now stands up, faces Tifa, and shakes his head.
​
CLOUD
That starry night by the water tower. The promise we made. What if it was all just made up?
​
TIFA
Try not to panic. Cornering yourself won’t help. Let the answers come naturally. Piece together all those little memories. Slowly. Little by little. Like the stars which filled the sky that night…
​
The camera zooms in on Cloud and Tifa. Tifa is looking up at the stars, while Cloud simply turns his body. Then, the screen goes black.
​
TIFA
From the beginning, okay?
​
The screen then transitions to Tifa and Cloud standing atop of the water tower. Cloud is faced away from her. His shoulders slumped.
​
TIFA
Try and remember.
​
Young Cloud and Young Tifa materialize, sitting on the water tower. Mimicking the memory of the promise flashback.
​
TIFA
That’s right. I was wearing those clothes.
Tifa faces the direction of the adult Cloud.
Yeah, and that’s right too. You were pretty short back then.
Tifa sits down next to the image of her younger self.
And cute.
At the exact same time, Adult Tifa turns her head toward Adult Cloud, while Young Tifa turns her head toward Young Cloud.
Sephiroth said…
Adult Tifa faces forward and kicks her dangling feet to and fro.
…that you created your memories by basing them on my memories, but…
Young Tifa faces forward and kicks her dangling feet to and fro.
…the starry night sky… You mentioned that first. You remembered it.
Young Cloud shakes his head.
The stars were so beautiful. We talked at the water tower. Just you and I. That’s why I kept believing you were the same Cloud. And I still do. I believe you’re the Cloud from Niblheim.
Young Cloud instantly appears at the very top of the water tower. Adult Tifa looks back at Adult Cloud.
But YOU don’t believe it.
Adult Tifa faces forward and looks up at the sky.
This memory isn’t enough.
The screen goes white. A now translucent Cloud and Tifa walk back to the nexus.

TIFA
What about your other memories?
Tifa shakes her head.
Hmm. No. Not memories. A memory is something that is consciously recalled, right? That’s why sometimes it can be wrong or become twisted. The memories that lie deep inside your heart are different. They tell the truth, If you were able to recall those memories, then… That’s it! What about a memory connected with me? Rather than remembering something I said… …why don’t YOU say something, and I’ll see if I remember it. If I can, then the memory must be…
Tifa nods.
Talk to me. Tell me about a moment that’s important to you.
Tifa turns her body away and assumes a thinking position.
Come to think of it, why did you want to join Soldier in the first place? I seem to remember it was a snap decision.

Both the giant translucent Cloud floating in the sky and the Cloud beside Tifa speak.

Tifa turns back to face Cloud.
​

You wanted to be noticed? By who?
​
GIANT CLOUD

KID CLOUD
From off screen.
Tifa, have you… forgotten what happened back then?

Tifa turns to where the voice originated. An image of a very young Kid Cloud sits on a ledge.

TIFA

Tifa shakes her head.
I’m sorry. I have no idea.
​
Kid Cloud stands up, jumps down to the platform that Tifa is on and shakes his head.
​
KID CLOUD
It’s all right. You were having a hard time.
Kid Cloud turns his head and looks at the ground.
You had your hands full, so it’s no surprise you don’t remember me from back then.

Kid Cloud lifts his head back up and Tifa walks over to Kid Cloud.
​
TIFA
What happened?
​
Kid Cloud nods.
​
KID CLOUD
It’s important to me. It may be a bitter memory, but it’s still very important. Do you want to see it?

Kid Cloud runs over and stands by the Cloud that is sitting on the path that leads to the open window.
​
KID CLOUD
Come on. Hurry.
​
CLOUD
Secret wishes… …sealed away… All those tender feelings that no-one ever knew.

Cloud stands up and takes a few steps to get out of the way. Kid Cloud runs over and stands by the open window. Tifa follows Kid Cloud.

KID CLOUD
You know where this window leads, don’t you? All right. Let’s go.

The camera whooshes into the window. Kid Cloud, Tifa, and Cloud are inside of Tifa’s bedroom. Cloud is sitting off in the corner.

TIFA
My room?
​
Kid Cloud nods.
​
KID CLOUD
It was my first time there.
​
TIFA
Was it? Really?
​
KID CLOUD
Before that, I’d only ever looked up at it from the outside.
​
Four children materialize. Kid Tifa, who is crouched by the window and three boys.

BOY 1 NPC
Hey, look!
The scene zooms in on Tifa crouched by the window. Boy 1 NPC runs over and looks outside of Kid Tifa’s window.
It’s Cloud!

Kid Cloud runs closer to the house. Boy 1 NPC turns to Kid Tifa, whose head is lowered to her knees.

BOY 1 NPC
You think he wants to come in?
​
Kid Tifa’s head lifts to look at Boy 1 NPC, then lowers back down to her knees.

TIFA

Boy 3 NPC runs over to the others as well.
Strange. Until just now, I thought we were always close… that we were close since childhood.

The scene changes back to showing Tifa, Cloud sitting, and Kid Cloud. The four children have disappeared. Tifa takes a few steps closer to her window and shakes her head.

TIFA
But I have no memory of you being in my room. In fact, I don’t remember us hanging out… at all. My first memory of you is by the water tower, under the stars.
​
Kid Cloud nods.
​
KID CLOUD
Always the same trio…

Tifa nods.
​
TIFA
That’s right.
​
Kid Cloud turns away from Tifa.
​
KID CLOUD
I… thought you were idiots.
​
Tifa quickly turns to face Kid Cloud.

TIFA

Kid Cloud turns to face Tifa.

KID CLOUD
You would always burst into laughter at the smallest of things, like children.

Tifa turns away from Kid Cloud, turns back to him, and makes a harumph type motion.

TIFA
But we WERE children.

Kid Cloud turns away from Tifa and nods.
​
KID CLOUD
I know. I was the idiot. I really wanted to play out with everyone, but you never asked me to join you.
Kid Cloud turns to face Tifa and shrugs.
The more that went on the more I thought I was different. …Different from this bunch of immature kids.
Kid Cloud faces away from Tifa again and nods.
But maybe…

A Shadow Cloud emerges from Cloud’s body and takes two steps toward Tifa.

SHADOW CLOUD
Just maybe… one of you might call out to me? I held on to that hope, so I kept hanging around nearby.

KID CLOUD
But I was too stubborn and rebellious, and I always felt so awkward around people. I was… weak.

SHADOW CLOUD
The night I asked you to meet me at the water tower, I thought… …I thought you’d never show up… …that you hated me.

Tifa nods.

TIFA
Yeah, it was a bit sudden. I was… surprised.
Tifa puts her hair behind her ear and faces Kid Cloud.
But, you know…
Tifa nods.
…while it’s true we weren’t that close…
Tifa turns away from the Clouds.
…after you left the village, I thought about you a lot. I used to wonder how you were doing– if you’d managed to enlist with Soldier.
Tifa twirls around, facing Kid Cloud again.
I started reading the newspapers, thinking I might see an article about you.

Kid Cloud turns to face Tifa.

KID CLOUD
Thanks, Tifa. Tell him what you’ve told me, later. He’ll be so happy.

TIFA
I will! Huh?
Tifa glances at all three Clouds.
Didn’t something happen on this day– something out of the ordinary?

KID CLOUD
This was the day…

Shadow Cloud shakes his head.

SHADOW CLOUD
…your mother…
​
The screen fades to white.
​
TIFA
Oh. The day… Mum died.
​
The scene changes back to show Kid Tifa huddled by her window with the three boys surrounding her.

KID TIFA
I want… to see Mum.
​
Kid Tifa stands up and runs out of her room. The scene changes to Mt. Nibl.
​
KID TIFA
I wonder if there’s anything beyond that mountain…
​
The camera pans to show Kid Tifa and the three boys at the base of the mountain.

BOY 1 NPC
Mt. Nibl is scary. People have died there.

BOY 2 NPC
The mountain that no-one crosses alive.

Kid Tifa turns and faces Boy 2 NPC.

KID TIFA
Well, what about the dead?
She turns the opposite direction.
Did my mum cross it?
Kid Tifa starts to walk up the mountain. She stops and turns to face the boys.
I’m gonna go see!

Kid Tifa continues up Mt. Nibl. Boy 2 NPC and Boy 3 NPC follow her. Boy 1 NPC runs in the opposite direction back toward Niblheim. Kid Cloud appears, watches Boy 1 NPC run past, then continues to follow the others. Kid Tifa continues across the long rope bridge, Boy 2 NPC and Boy 3 NPC stop and run in opposite direction back toward the village. Kid Cloud begins to run across the bridge. The screen goes white, showing Tifa, Cloud, and Shadow Cloud staring at Kid Cloud and Kid Tifa. Kid Cloud and Kid Tifa appear to be lying on the ground.

CLOUD
I don’t remember how we got there. You missed your step. I ran to help you, but didn’t make it in time. We both… fell off the cliff. I only grazed my knees, but…
​
A man with red hair runs over and picks Kid Tifa up into his arms. He is accompanied by Tifa’s Father, who begins shaking his fist at Kid Cloud while Kid Cloud lays on the ground.

TIFA’S FATHER
Cloud! Why did you bring Tifa to a place like this!?
Kid Cloud sits up and looks at Kid Tifa.
What the hell were you thinking!?
​
The man with red hair begins to walk off with Kid Tifa cradled in his arms. Tifa’s Father points at them.
​
TIFA’S FATHER
What if she dies!?
​
Tifa’s Father walks off after the red harried man, leaving Kid Cloud sitting on the ground.
​
CLOUD
You were out cold for seven days. I didn’t think you’d make it. If only I’d been able to save you… I was so frustrated and angry that I’d been too weak to do anything. After that, I always felt as though you blamed me for what had happened. I went out of control. I got into fights with anyone and everyone.
Screen fades to black.
Then I heard about Sephiroth… …and I wanted to be like him. If I were strong like Sephiroth, everyone would…

The scene returns to the nexus. Tifa is facing Cloud, who is now standing by the window, and Shadow Cloud. Shadow Cloud turns his head away from Tifa.
​
SHADOW CLOUD
If I could just get stronger, even Tifa would have to notice me.
​
Tifa nods.
​
TIFA
So that’s how it was… I’m so sorry, Cloud. If only I’d remembered more clearly what happened back then, I could have done something sooner.
​
The Cloud standing by the window takes a step closer to Tifa and shakes his head.
​
CLOUD
It’s not your fault, Tifa. It’s mine.
Tifa faces away from the Clouds and assumes a thinking pose.
​
TIFA
But that’s… That’s when we were eight!
Tifa nods.
Hey! You’ve got it!
Tifa turns to face the Clouds.
You weren’t created five years ago… My childhood memories can’t possibly be made up!
She looks at both Shadow Cloud and Cloud.
Hang in there! Just a little longer! We’re so close to finding the real you!
The Cloud’s nod and all three make a pose showing determination.
Let’s go back to Nibelheim one more time.

Shadow Cloud merges with Cloud, who then runs down the path that leads to Niblheim’s entrance. Tifa follows.

CLOUD
The truth is here. The answer is right in front of us.
​
Cloud and Tifa continue to run through Niblheim. Tifa stops.
​
TIFA
Cloud, wait.
Cloud stops.
Where? Where are you going?
​
Cloud faces Tifa, crosses his arms and taps his foot in thought.
​
CLOUD
…The reactor?
Cloud turns and faces the pathway ahead of them and nods.
To the Mako reactor! The Mako reactor–five years ago!
​
Cloud and Tifa continue on ahead. The scene changes to the inside of the Mako reactor from the past, the Niblheim incident. Young Tifa and Sephiroth are tugging at the Masamune until Sephiroth finally yanks it from Young Tifa’s hands. Sephiroth slashes Young Tifa with the sword, sending her flying backward down the stairs. As she reaches the bottom of the stairs, a black haired Soldier comes in. The same one as briefly seen in the previous flashback.

TIFA
Look! That isn’t you!
​
Sephiroth enters through the doorway into Jenova’s chamber.
​
CLOUD
Za… Z…ax… Zax.
​
TIFA
You remembered!
Zax runs up the stairs and through the doorway after Sephiroth.
That’s right! It was Zax who came to Niblheim with Sephiroth. Then… where were you, Cloud?
​
Zax is thrown through the doorway and lands on his back near the stairwell. I figure of a Shin-Ra infantryman enters the reactor.
​
CLOUD
I… saw it.
​
The Shin-Ra infantryman grabs Zax’s sword and runs up the stairs. Sephiroth is standing in front of Jenova’s tank. The Shin-Ra infantryman runs up behind Sephiroth. As Sephiroth turns around, the infantryman stabs him.
​
SEPHIROTH
Uurgh… Who… Who are you?
​
SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN
My mum… Tifa… The village… Give them back!
The infantryman pulls the sword out of Sephiroth. Sephiroth slumps down.
I respected you! I admired you!
​
The infantryman backs away and stands there, breathing heavily as though in anger.
​
TIFA
Cloud!?
The infantryman shakes his head and removes his helmet, revealing himself to be Cloud.
So, that’s what happened.
​
The scene changes to when they saw the Mako fountain. Young Tifa approaches the fountain, Zax stands in the background, and the infantryman slightly turns his head, seemingly looking at Young Tifa.
​
TIFA
…You were with me. You were watching over me.
​
The scene changes again to when Young Tifa was not allowed to enter the reactor with Sephiroth and the other Soldier, now known as Zax. The infantryman, Young Cloud with his helmet on, guards the doorway, holding his hand up, and shaking his head at Tifa.
​
TIFA
Yeah, I remember.
Young Tifa stamps her foot in frustration at the infantryman.
So… that was you.
​
The screen fades to black.
​
ZAX
Hey, Cloud, if you aren’t feeling well, why don’t you lose the helmet?
​
CLOUD
Yeah…
​
The scene changes again to the inside of the truck, on its way to Niblheim. Young Cloud, who is currently not wearing his helmet, Zax standing next to him, Sephiroth, and the other infantryman.
​
CLOUD
Yeah… This is… me. I never made it into Soldier. I told everyone I would before I left the village. I felt so ashamed. I didn’t want anybody to see me.
​
The scene changes to Niblheim’s entrance. Sephiroth stands in the entryway. Closeby, Young Tifa is sitting on the ground with her head resting on her knees. As Young Cloud, Zax, and the other Infantryman approach, Young Cloud sees Tifa, shakes his head, and runs back to put his helmet on. As Young Cloud approaches with his helmet now on, he sulks his head down. Zax faces Young Cloud and shrugs. Young Tifa stands up and Young Cloud lifts his head back up. Looking at the group, Young Tifa shakes her head and runs away. Sephiroth turns to Young Cloud.

SEPHIROTH
How does it feel?
Running, Young Tifa disappears around the corner.
It’s been a while since you were back in your hometown, right?
​
The scene changes to Niblheim burning. The infantryman who was lying outside of Cloud’s house, now known to be Young Cloud, twitches and struggles to get up.
​
YOUNG CLOUD
Ugh…
​
Young Cloud sits up, puts his head in his hands, and shakes his head.
​
The scene changes back to inside the Mako reactor. Young Cloud, with his helmet removed, is coming back down the stairs, with the Buster Sword in hand.
​
TIFA
You did come. You did keep your promise.
Young Cloud reaches the bottom of the stairs, where Young Tifa is, and begins to pick her up.
You really did show up when I was in a bind.
​
Young Cloud picks up and carries Young Tifa off to the side of the stairwell.
​
CLOUD
Sorry I… didn’t get there sooner.
​
Young Cloud gently sets Young Tifa down on the ground.
​
TIFA
Cloud… It’s all right.
​
At the top of the stairwell, Sephiroth emerges out of Jenova’s chamber. His Masamune in one hand and Jenova’s head in the other.
​
SEPHIROTH
Did you honestly think the likes of you could…?
​
Sephiroth limps down the stairs. He pauses at the bottom to briefly look at Jenova’s head and then exits the reactor. You Cloud begins to follow after Sephiroth.
​
ZAX
Cloud… Sephiroth… Finish him.
​
Young Cloud continues after Sephiroth. He catches up to him in the room with a large catwalk above a large pit of Mako.
​
YOUNG CLOUD
Sephiroth!!
​
Sephiroth stops. As Young Cloud runs up behind him, Sephiroth stabs Young Cloud clean through with the Masamune.
​
SEPHIROTH
Don’t… push… your luck.
Sephiroth begins lifting Cloud into the air, but Cloud grabs the end of the Masamune, gets his feet back on the catwalk, and begins struggling against Sephiroth.
It… can’t be!
​
Young Cloud lifts Sephiroth into the air by the sword and throws Sephiroth into the Mako pit below. Young Cloud slumps to the ground.
​
Cloud and Tifa return to the nexus. Tifa is standing next to Kid Cloud at the center. On each of the three branched paths sits a translucent Cloud. Giant Cloud is still hovering in the air.
​
TIFA
Cloud…
​
KID CLOUD
I have to say goodbye now. …So we can meet again.
​
The three translucent Clouds stand up. Tifa looks around at them.
​
TIFA
…!?
​
The translucent Clouds approach and encircle Kid Cloud. Kid Cloud raises his fist in a determined pose and the translucent Clouds nod. One by one, each translucent Cloud merges with Kid Cloud. Finally, Giant Cloud shrinks and merges as well. A single Cloud now falls to the ground, still translucent. Tifa kneels down to check on him.

TIFA
Cloud!!
​
Cloud begins to sit up, clutching his head.
​
CLOUD
Uh… Argh!
He solidifies and sits up.
Urgh… Tifa…
​
TIFA
Oh, Cloud! It’s really you!
​
CLOUD
Hello… Tifa… We meet again… at last.
​
Cloud stands up, then Tifa.
​
TIFA
You stupid jerk! You had us all worried sick!!
​
Cloud falls back to his knees and clutches his head.
​
CLOUD
Urgh!
​
Tifa kneels back down.
​
TIFA
Are you all right!?
​
CLOUD
Th-their… voices.
​
Tifa shakes her head.
​
TIFA
Yeah… we’re in the Lifestream… Everyone’s waiting. Let’s go back—back to everyone.
​
CLOUD
Yeah. We’ll go back… together.
​
Cloud stands up. Cloud and Tifa float up to the surface beside eachother.

The scene changes to Midhir, which is now wreckage. Cloud and Tifa are collapsed on dry land next to the pooled Lifestream. The rest of the party is surrounding them

Hey, you all right? Tifa!?

Tifa opens her eyes.

TIFA
U…uh…?
Tifa sits up.
Barrett…? I’m… back? …What about Cloud? Is he all right?
​
BARRETT
Yeah, don’t worry ‘bout him. He’s a tough one, that’s for sure.
​
TIFA
Barrett, I… I found the real Cloud… when I was in the Lifestream.
Tifa nods.
Well, it wasn’t me that found him. …He did it all on his own.
​
Barrett nods.
​
BARRETT
Yeah. Sorry I doubted him.
Barrett shakes his head.
He gave in to you though. You’re one helluva woman.
​
Tifa lays back down.
​
TIFA
People keep so many things pent up inside…
Tifa closes her eyes.
So many things that they end up completely forgetting some of them. Strange… isn’t it…? …

Tifa’s head rolls to the side.
​
BARRETT
Yo! Tifa! Snap outta it!!
Screen fades to black.
Tifa!

The scene changes to inside of the Highwind. The entire party, including Cloud and Tifa, is gathered around a long table in the Operations Room. Cloud stands at the head of it.

CLOUD
Everyone, I’m sorry. I don’t know what else there is to say.
​
NANAKI
It’s okay, Cloud! All you’ve been doing lately is apologizing.
​
Cloud briefly faces Nanaki and nods, then turns back to the group and slumps his head and shoulders.
​
CLOUD
I never was in Soldier. The events from five years ago–all the stuff about Soldier–it was just an illusion that I created.
By the time I left my village, I’d boasted to everyone about becoming a hero, but, in the end, I wasn’t good enough to make it. I was so ashamed… and weak. Then I heard my best friend, Zax, talking about himself… I mixed his life with my own and created a fantasy. I’ve been trapped in it, up until now.

Cloud lifts his head back up and nods.
​
BARRETT
An illusion? Sure had me fooled.
​
Cloud turns to face Barrett and nods.
​
CLOUD
Physically, I’m very similar to a Soldier. Hojo’s Sephiroth-Copies are nothing special. The process that was used to create them is almost identical to the one that’s used to create Soldiers. The only difference was the subjects involved were weak-willed.
Cloud turns again and faces Nanaki’s direction.
You see, those who are a good prospect for Soldier aren’t just bathed in Mako… …Their bodies are actually injected with Jenova cells.
Cloud turns to face Tifa.
For better or worse, only the strong-willed are chosen. It has nothing to do with Jenova’s Reunion, either. It’s just that if the process is used on someone who’s weak-will–like me–they lose themselves.
Cloud turns to face forward and looks up at the ceiling.
A man born from Jenova cells, Sephiroth’s will, and his own weaknesses. That’s… the Cloud you all came to know.
Cloud lowers his head back down and shakes it.
I was merely an inhabitant of my illusionary world. But I don’t need illusions anymore. It’s time to stop living a lie and to start being myself.

TIFA
You mean the li’l, stubborn, rebellious Cloud… right?
​
BARRETT
Ha! Some change that’s gonna be!
​
Cloud scratches the back of his head.
​
CAIT
Cloud, what’re yer plans? Ah hope ye’r no thinkin’ o’ leavin’?

Cloud turns to face Cait.
​
CLOUD
I’m the reason Meteor is hurtling toward us.
Cloud faces forward again and nods.
If there’s anything I can do to change that, I’ll do it.

BARRETT
Yeah! So, you’re gonna carry on fightin’ for the planet?

CLOUD
It’s like you always said, Barrett…
​
BARRETT
Heh! Damn straight!

NANAKI
What? I don’t get it!

They all laugh and leave the Operations Room until only Cloud remains. As Cloud moves toward the exit, he is stopped and saluted to by Large Crewman NPC. Cloud salutes the crewman back.

I was deeply moved by your story, Cloud. I’m kind of weak myself, so I know how you feel. No-one knows when the fighting will begin, so let’s get ready!

Cloud picks his party members and the scene changes to everyone being inside the cockpit, Cait bounds a few steps forward.

CAIT
Listen, Cloud… We’re in the middle o’ the Huge Materia mission. Ah dinnae wantae rush ye or anythin’ but there’s still the Undersea Mako Reactor in Junon. As far as ah know, that’s the only one left. How aboot we head oot there?

Cait bounds back to his normal spot.
