junon

The party enters Junon. It is a run-down village. At the far end, there is an elevator that leads to the upper part of the city. A Shin-Ra infantryman guards it.

CLOUD

What’s with this place? It’s so run-down…

OLD WOMAN NPC

What…? Now, this IS rare. We almost never have anyone other than Shin-Ra coming to our village. I’m guessing you want to reach the western continent, but the only way is on a Shin-Ra ship.

If Cloud enters the Weapons Store…

SHOPKEEPER

If you see a weapon you like… buy it.

If Cloud walks around the counter and speaks to Shopkeeper from behind it…

SHOPKEEPER

Can I help you?

If Cloud heads back outside…

FISHERMAN NPC

Ever since Shin-Ra built that city up above during the war… …cough…cough… …we haven’t been able to catch a single damn fish! The sea is so filthy now …sigh….

If Cloud talks to the Old Man NPC…

CLOUD

What is this place?

OLD MAN NPC

Who are you people? Where did you come from?

Cloud scratches his head…

CLOUD

Did you see a man in a black cloak?

OLD MAN NPC

Hmm. No. Haven’t seen anyone like that.

If talked to again…

There’s absolutely nothing here. Used to be a busy port, mind you.

SHIN-RA GUARD NPC

This elevator belongs to the Shin-Ra Company. No snooping around!

Cloud goes down to the beach, where a little girl is waving towards the ocean.

LITTLE GIRL NPC

Heeeey! Mr Dolphin!

A dolphin swims up close to where Little Girl NPC is standing on the beach.

My name’s… Pri-scil-la! Now you say it.

Priscilla turns around to face Cloud and the party…

PRISCILLA

Who are you? You’re from Shin-Ra, aren’t you!?

BARRETT

No! You got it all wrong! We’re fightin’ against Shin-Ra!

AERITH

No, you’re wrong! We have nothing to do with Shin-Ra!

TIFA

It’s not like that. Calm down.

RED

No. We don’t get along with Shin-Ra.

YUFFIE

Hey, watch your mouth! We hate Shin-Ra!

CLOUD

…It’s the truth.

PRISCILLA

I don’t believe you! Get out of here!

Cloud shrugs.

CLOUD

The ground begins to shake and a party member takes to steps closer to the ocean…

BARRETT

Hey! Look at that!

AERITH

What’s that!?

TIFA

Look at that!

RED

A monster!

YUFFIE

Whoa!

A sea serpent type monster approaches and attacks Mr Dolphin.

PRISCILLA

Mr Dolphin’s in trouble!

Priscilla runs out into the ocean. The sea monster attacks her and she falls unconscious.

CLOUD

Hold on! We’re coming!

The party fights and defeats the sea monster. Priscilla is dragged ashore. Cloud is kneeling beside her while the others stand looking down at her.

CLOUD

This is bad. You don’t think she’s dead, do you?

Cloud stands up, crosses his arms, and taps his foot in thought. A voice shouts from off screen.

OLD MAN NPC

Priscilla!!

The party turns toward the direction of the shout. Old Man NPC walks down the stairs and kneels over Priscilla’s body to check for breathe.

It’s no use. She’s not breathing. Ah! I know! Young man… CPR!

CLOUD

Mouth-to-mouth!?

BARRETT

We’re countin’ on ya, Cloud.

AERITH

Cloud, hurry!

TIFA

Cloud, you’ve got to!

RED

Well, I can’t do it.

YUFFIE

Do it, Cloud!

Cloud shakes his head.

CLOUD

But… she’s a girl, and I’m a…

BARRETT

We’re countin’ on ya, Cloud.

AERITH

Cloud, hurry!

TIFA

Cloud, you’ve got to!

RED

Well, I can’t do it.

YUFFIE

Do it, Cloud!

OLD MAN NPC

Don’t you know how? Come over here, and I’ll tell you.

CLOUD

Guess I gotta do it.

OLD MAN NPC

Just take a deep breath. Hold it for as long as you can, then breather into her. Hurry up!

Cloud kneels down beside Priscilla.

NON-CHARACTER TEXTBOX

Press [Square] to start the breathing gauge. Press again to stop it.

Eventually, Cloud resuscitates Priscilla.

PRISCILLA

Uh… ugh…

OLD MAN NPC

Hooo! Priscilla, are you all right!?

Old Man NPC kneels down, picks Priscilla up, and carries her back to the village. The party follows. Old Man NPC stands outside of Priscilla’s house.

OLD MAN NPC

Sorry, Cloud. Priscilla needs to rest a while.

Old Woman NPC is standing outside her house at the South end of the village near the beach entrance.

OLD WOMAN NPC

Please come inside for a minute.

They all enter the house.

I heard what happened. You’ve done so much for Priscilla. You must all be tired. If you need to rest, feel free to stay here.

Old Woman NPC begins to head for the door and turns around to face them again.

Make yourselves at home.

She leaves.

BARRETT

I need to unwind!

AERITH

Shall we rest?

TIFA

We should get some rest?

RED

Should we rest?

YUFFIE

I wanna rest.

Cloud crosses his arms and taps his foot.

CLOUD

  1. Later (If selected, nothing happens.)

  2. Yeah, let’s get some sleep

If Cloud selected Later, leaves the house, and comes back…

CLOUD

  1. Let’s get some sleep

  2. Don’t feel tired (If selected, nothing happens.)

If Cloud chooses to get some sleep, the screen fades to black…

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

Speaking of which…

CLOUD

You again! Who are you!?

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

You’ll know soon enough. But, more importantly, five years ago…

CLOUD

Five years ago…? Niblheim?

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

Back then… When you went to My Nibl. Tifa was your guide, right?

CLOUD

Yeah. It surprised me.

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

But where was she other than that?

CLOUD

…I don’t know.

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

And it was such a great chance for the two of you to see each other again after so long, wasn’t it?

CLOUD

…Yeah, it was.

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

So, why weren’t you able to see each other alone?

CLOUD

I don’t know. I can’t remember clearly.

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

Well, why don’t you try asking Tifa?

CLOUD

Yeah…

MYSTERIOUS VOICE TEXT

Then wake up!

TIFA VOICE TEXT BOX

Wake up! Come on, Cloud! Wake up!

Screen fades back to the inside of the house. For some reason, lively music is playing in the background. Tifa is standing in front of Cloud.

CLOUD

Tifa… When Sephiroth and I went to Niblheim, where were you?

Tifa brushes her hair behind her ear.

TIFA

We met, remember?

CLOUD

I mean other than that.

Tifa shifts, thinking.

TIFA

Well, uh… it was five years ago. I don’t remember. But never mind that. There’s something going on. Come quick.

Tifa runs out of the house and Cloud follows. The rest of the group is standing at the bottom of the stairs that leads to Priscilla’s house.

OLD WOMAN NPC

All we’ve been hearing about for the last few decades is Shin-Ra. I miss the days when we’d talk about fish.

Cloud runs to join the rest of the group.

BARRETT

It’s really buzzin’ up there!

AERITH

I heard that girl regained consciousness.

TIFA

Doesn’t it seem a little strange – everything getting so noisy all of the sudden?

RED

Does all this commotion have something to do with Shin-Ra?

YUFFIE

What’s that loud music? It’s driving me nuts!

Cloud starts up the steps and Priscilla comes out.

CLOUD

Are you okay?

PRISCILLA

Um… thanks for helping me.

Priscilla and Cloud head back down the stairs to the others.

Sorry I mistook you for Shin-Ra.

CLOUD

It’s cool.

PRISCILLA

I’ll give you something special!

Priscilla takes a couple steps closer to Cloud.

It’s an ocean amulet. Take good care of it, okay?

Obtained Shiva materia!

Priscilla takes two steps away.

BARRETT

What’s that music about? Sure sounds lively.

PRISCILLA

I heard they’re rehearsing for the new Shin-Ra president’s inauguration.

BARRETT

Rufus!? I gotta pay my respects…

PRISCILLA

You know, my grandma and grandad told me the cove was beautiful when they were little. But after Shin-Ra built the city above, the sun stopped shining here, and the sea got all polluted. I was brought up listening to those stories, so it’s no wonder I hate Shin-Ra’s guts.

AERITH

Is Rufus thinking about crossing the ocean from here? Does that mean Sephiroth already has?

Red stands on his hind legs and crosses his arms.

RED

It’s a shame you couldn’t finish him off, Cloud.

BARRETT

We need to get to the districts above. Mebbe we could scramble up the support…

Priscilla waves her arms frantically.

PRISCILLA

No, no! The bottom of the support’s electrified! Don’t go near it! It’s dangerous! But… you might be able to get past it if Mr Dolphin helps you. Follow me.

Priscilla runs toward the beach.

TIFA

An electrified support? I guess this is a job for you, Cloud.

AERITH

Yeah, better leave it to Cloud!

RED

We’re relying on you.

Cloud shakes his head.

CLOUD

Hey!!

The group disperses. Barrett walks over to Fisherman NPC and starts talking to him. Tifa and Aerith begin talking to eachother. While, Red and Yuffie also wander off together.

Wait!

If Cloud talks to Red, who is looking at the elevator guard…

RED

I think that’s a Shin-Ra soldier over there.

If Cloud talks to Yuffie…

YUFFIE

Aren’t you going to follow the girl?

If Cloud tries to talk to Tifa and Aerith…

TIFA

I don’t like this.

AERITH

Me neither.

If Cloud talks to Barret…

BARRETT

I’m gonna say hello to the new president. …Up close ‘n’ personal!

Cloud runs down to the beach and talks to Priscilla.

PRISCILLA

Watch this…

Priscilla blows a whistle and Barrett joins them as Mr Dolphin swims around. Mr Dolphin leaps into the air.

BARRETT

Now, ain’t that somethin’? I ain’t never seen a dolphin jump like that before!

PRISCILLA

Pretty neat, huh? When I blow the whistle, Mr Dolphin jumps for me. Here. This is a present for you, mister!

Cloud shrugs.

CLOUD

What am I supposed to do with it?

PRISCILLA

Just go into the water, blow the whistle, and Mr Dolphin will jump you to the top of the support!

NON-CHARACTER TEXT BOX

Call the dolphin with [Square].

CLOUD

Jump me to the top of the support?

PRISCILLA

See that rod sticking out at the top? If you jump just right, you’ll land on it. Then you can reach the city above.

BARRETT

Go get ‘em, Cloud! We’ll be right behind you! Whoa! I’ll hold the PHS for you. It’ll break if it gets wet.

PRISCILLA

Wanna try jumping with Mr Dolphin?

CLOUD

  1. Explain it to me again (If selected, Priscilla repeats her explanation.)

  2. Give it a try

  3. I’ll pass

PRISCILLA (I’ll pass)

Come back whenever you want to see Mr Dolphin!

If Cloud selects Give it a try, he goes into the water. Eventually, Mr Dolphin jumps Cloud up to the top of the support.

------------------------------------------------------

Cloud continues to climb up until he reaches the Shin-Ra airfield. A giant airship can be seen on the landing pad area. As Cloud enters the Junon Airport, he finds three Shin-Ra troops running down the hall.

SHIN-RA TROOP 1 NPC

Hey! Ho!

SHIN-RA TROOP 2 NPC

Hurry! Hurry!!

SHIN-RA TROOP 3 NPC

The new president! The reception! The reception!

The three Shin-Ra troops exit outside. A Shin-Ra captain comes in and sees Cloud.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

What? Still dressed like that!? Come ‘ere.

Cloud shrugs.

If he tries to leave without entering the locker room…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Hey! Rookie! You deaf of somethin’? I said come here. Move it! Get in there!

Cloud enters the locker room. Shin-Ra Captain NPC follows.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Ugh! Today of all days… It’s only the inauguration for the new president. Get changed, you idiot!

If selected again…

There’s a uniform in the locker! Hurry up! On the double!

Cloud walks over to the locker that’s partially opened.

CLOUD

It’s a Shin-Ra uniform.

  1. Don’t change

  2. Change

CLOUD (Don’t change)

This place is crawling with soldiers. Better not try anything dumb…

CLOUD (Change)

It’s been a while…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Stop yappin’. Get it done.

Cloud walks out of sight to change.

CLOUD

A Shin-Ra uniform. I must’ve been so proud when I first put one of these on. I wonder when it was… …that I started to hate wearing this thing.

Cloud finishes changing and walks out wearing the Shin-Ra infantryman uniform.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Heeey! Lookin’ good! You remember the greeting, right?

Cloud shrugs.

Your face says it all. Ah well, lemme show ya. Just follow my lead.

Two Shin-Ra infantrymen run in.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMEN NPCs

Captain, we’ll help too.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

I’ll demonstrate the motions, sir.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

And I’ll handle the singing, sir.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Heh… Okay, let’s have it. Our first line of business is the march for the inaugural parade.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

March to the song…

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

Quiet, everyone.

The inaugural music that was playing suddenly stops.

Do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do… And here we go! Ready? Then…

The music starts back up.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

March! One, two. One, two. Keep in step with the soldier next to you, and march with spirit and pride.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

---Rufus--- ---Rufus Shinra---

---We the Shin-Ra Company--- ---Welcome our new president---

---Oh---Oh--- ---Shin-Ra---

---Oh--- ---The Shin-Ra Company---

---President Rufus--- ---Opening the door---

---Oh---Oh--- ---Shin-Ra---

---Oh--- ---The Shin-Ra Company---

---Dawn of a new age--- ---Shin-Ra evermore---

---Rufus--- ---Rufus Shinra---

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Once you’re all in step, shoulder your rifle. Got it? To shoulder your rifle press O.

CLOUD

  1. Not yet

  2. Got it

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC (Not yet)

All right, one more time. We’ll practice some more. Remember… spirit and pride! Keep in step with the soldier next to you, and march with spirit and pride. Once you’re all in step, shoulder your rifle.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC (Got it)

Good. Make sure you’re at peak performance for the real thing.

A third Shin-Ra Infantryman comes into the locker room.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 3 NPC

Sir, Rufus has arrived. Preparations are complete.

The three infantrymen leave.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Show time! Don’t disgrace yourself!

The Shin-Ra Captain NPC leaves. Cloud leaves the screen changes to the open street where preparations for the inauguration parade are being made with another captain and other infantrymen. An infantryman approaches them.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN NPC

The parade is about to begin!

The parade begins with Heidegger marching in front. Rufus is in the middle, waving from inside a car. Screen pans back to Cloud, who is following Shin-Ra Captain NPC and the infantryman from out of the locker to the outside. Outside, the camera pans to the large canon that is mounted onto Junon. The street itself is empty.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

This can’t be right… No-one’s here. Are we late? Hey, rookie! This is all your fault for being too damn slow!!

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

Captain! We can take a short cut…

SHIN-RA CATAIN NPC

Right! Good strategy! Get over here!

If Cloud tries to run back to the locker rooms…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

You’re really pushing your luck now.

Cloud runs to the others.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

You first!

They run down an alley and come to the parade.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

I’ll go first, sir. Watch closely, and do as I do, rookie.

He starts sneaking into the parade.

Sneak quickly into the back of the line when you see an opening.

He makes it to the back. Cloud shrugs.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Now, listen up… This parade’s being broadcast live, around the world, on Shin-Ra TV. If you look bad, the whole Junon army will look bad. Keep that in mind while you’re out there. Okay. Jump in line when I give the signal. Sneak in casually from the rear. Keep in formation, and remember to shoulder your rifle by holding O. Right… Double time!! March!

If Cloud turns around and tries to talk to the captain…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

GO! Sneak in casually from the rear. Make sure no-one notices.

If Cloud just stands there…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Hey! Move your arse!

If Cloud tries to run off-screen…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Hey! Get back here!

If Cloud tries to enter the front of the parade…

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Hey! Get back here! I said from the rear!

Cloud runs back and shrugs at him.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

What the hell are you doing?

Cloud enters the parade as instructed.

TV PRODUCER

What the heck was that soldier doing?

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

I have no idea.

TV PRODUCER

How are the ratings?

If ratings are great…

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

They’ve skyrocketed!

TV PRODUCER

We did it! Send that soldier something special!

Obtained 5000 gil!

If the ratings were good…

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Not bad!

TV PRODUCER

I see. Send that soldier something extravagant.

Obtained 6 Ethers!

If the ratings were so-so…

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Well, they’re okay, I guess.

TV PRODUCER

Hmmm… Send that soldier a gift or something.

Obtained 6 Potions!

If the ratings were low…

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Oh, this is terrible! Am… Am I fired?

TV PRODUCER

Whaaaat!? You bet your ass you’re fired!! Send that soldier a bomb or something!

Obtained Grenade!

Cloud and Shin-Ra Captain NPC join a group of soldiers drilling in front of Rufus and Heidegger.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Good. We made it. Uh oh! It’s President Rufus. Hey! Line up. Shut up.

He runs to the back of the drill team and turns to face Cloud.

Don’t move off that spot.

The Shin-Ra troops finish their drill. Heidegger turns to face Rufus. Rufus runs his hand through his hair.

RUFUS

At ease. Now, where is my airship?

Heidegger scratches is head.

HEIDEGGER

Unfortunately, the long range airship is still being prepared. It should be ready in about three more days. Gya, ha, ha!

Rufus crosses his arms.

RUFUS

Then we can use one of the air force’s Guernicas instead?

HEIDEGGER

Gya, ha, ha!

Rufus walks up to Heidegger.

RUFUS

Stop that stupid laugh. Things are different from when my father was in charge.

HEIDEGGER

Gya…

Rufus takes a few steps away from Heidegger again.

RUFUS

Fine. We’ll take the cargo ship.

Heidegger bows to Rufus.

HEIDEGGER

Yes, sir! I’ll make arrangements on the double!

Rufus climbs up a ladder into the base. Heidegger turns toward the men and laughs. They join him in laughing. Suddenly, he charges at them and everyone but Cloud scatters. He runs up and punches Cloud a few times. Cloud shrugs it off. Heidegger then follows Rufus up the ladder and the other troops surround Cloud.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

What a disaster.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

Heidegger was really pissed off.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 3 NPC

The man in the black cloak’s been roaming the city, but no one can find him.

CLOUD

Man in a black cloak?

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 4 NPC

He showed up about two or three days ago and killed a few soldiers.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 5 NPC

He disappeared again after that. There’s a rumour going around that it was the legendary Sephiroth.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

TEN-HUT! Dismissed!

The troops scatter and Shin-Ra Captain NPC approaches Cloud.

You again!? Think the army’s a joke, eh?

CLOUD

  1. I’m really not interested

  2. I wouldn’t know

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC (I’m really not interested or I wouldn’t know)

Slacker!! No break for you! Come with me!

They head back to the locker room.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

This is the army!! Your orders now are to send off President Rufus at the harbour. I’ll keep drilling you until it’s time.

The two infantrymen from before come back into the locker room.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

I will assist you, sir.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

As will I, sir.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

In line! Show me your best farewell pose. Ready? Junon military send off… BEGIN!

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMEN NPCs

Yes, sir!

Shin-Ra Captain NPC blows a whistle and then men show the send-off moves. When finished, Shin-Ra Captain NPC turns to Cloud.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Now, you try.

Cloud practices.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Got it?

CLOUD

  1. Not yet, sir

  2. Yes, sir

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC (Not yet, sir)

Again!

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC (Yes, sir)

Good. Don’t disgrace yourself.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

Captain, what’s today’s special pose?

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Hm… I haven’t decided yet. All right, rookie, you decide. Show us your best pose.

Cloud shrugs.

CLOUD

Let’s see… I guess my best pose is…

Cloud twirls his rifle in the same manner that he does with his swords.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

Wow!

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

That was awesome!

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Excellent. We’ll go with that as our special. Be sure to practice it.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMEN NPCs

Yes, sir!

Shin-Ra Captain NPC turns toward Cloud.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Meet us at the harbour. Do not be late. TEN-HUT! Dismissed.

They leave the locker room. Cloud can now explore Upper Junon…

If Cloud heads down the elevator and runs into the elevator guard below…

SHIN-RA ELEVATOR GUARD NPC

Huh? It’s not time to change guard yet?

CLOUD

Uh, yeah, right…

He takes the elevator back up and heads for the outside street. A few Shin-Ra troops are running around, along with Rude, who heads toward the Weapons Store. A Materia Storekeeper NPC stands outside his shop door, attempting to usher people in.

If Cloud talks to him…

MATERIA STOREKEEPER NPC

Forget duty! Step right up!

The salesman goes inside. If Cloud follows…

MATERIA STOREKEEPER NPC

Welcome! Business has been so slow today. I was starting to worry.

If Cloud exits the Materia Store and enters the Weapons Store…

WEAPON STOREKEEPER NPC

Hey! Yo! Our weapons are the best!

If Cloud heads downstairs, there will be a bar with five men gathered around a table. They are all bald and one of them is Rude.

BARTENDER NPC

I’m sorry. We’re reserved for today.

RUDE

Hmm… You too? Then take off the helmet and join us. That’s our rule.

BALD OLD MAN NPC

Looks like you’re still all wet behind the ears.

BALD MAN IN TRENCHCOAT NPC

Something’s going on outside, but we’ve been on outside, but we’ve been here swiggin’ since midday.

If Cloud exits the Weapon Store and enters the General Store…

GENERAL STOREKEEPER NPC

Goodness me, a soldier! Welcome!

If Cloud exits the General Store and enters the last room on the street, it will lead to a barracks, a man in a plain blue shirt will be running frantically around the room. A Shin-Ra Infantryman stands guard at the door to the basement.

BLUE SHIRT NPC

How could this happen!? Why didn’t my superiors wake me!? I can’t find the uniform I left in my locker, either. Where is it? Geez… You don’t think this is hazing, do you? Oh, man. My future in the military is looking pretty bleak.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN GUARD NPC

Hmmm… A know-it-all, eh? All right, come on in.

If Cloud follows him, he winds up in the basement. There are two other Shin-Ra Infantrymen besides the guard. There are also three muscled men flexing, similar to the ones at the Beginner’s Hall back in District 7. One of the three flexers is the Muscled With Hard Hat NPC. The three flexers are translucent, like ghosts.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN GUARD NPC

Only a chosen few get to enter the Experts’ Hall. Expound the knowledge you hold to your heart’s content.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

Oh, wise one, why don’t you tell me about materia and let off some steam?

CLOUD

Yeah…

  1. Materia growth

  2. Types of materia

  3. Materia combinations

  4. Materia division

  5. Quatity allowed

  6. The rest is a secret (If selected, nothing happens.)

CLOUD (Materia growth)

Let’s cut to the chase. Different types of materia will grow in different ways. As they mature, most will undergo a change. For example, Magic materia gives rise to new abilities and spells… …and Summon materia can be used an increasing number of times in battle. Those that don’t change will still need to fully mature in order to divide. That’s all. Maybe that came across a little too formal?

CLOUD (Types of materia)

Types of materia? Here goes…

Independent materia: Enables abilities when equipped. Doesn’t link with other materia.

Support materia: Can be linked with Command, Magic, and Summon materia. For there to be any effect, the materia must be placed into linked slots.

Command materia: Enables new commands. There’s a lot of this type. Some will even change the Attack command.

Magic materia: That’s easy… It enables magic. This type will gain new abilities as the level increases.

Summon materia: Allows you to summon a beast.

The number of times you can call a beast in a single battle increases as the materia’s level increases. Summon materia is my favorite!

…And those are the five types of materia.

CLOUD (Materia combinations)

Combining materia, huh? This isn’t straightforward, so let’s go over the basics… First, Support materia. The most basic combination is Magic + All. As the magic level increases, so do the number of spells available. With All, the level increase will determine the number of times the materia is effective in battle. That about covers it. Hm…Wait a sec. You can switch between multiple and single targets with L1/R1. I’ll bet you’ve already mastered that? A more advanced combination is Property + Magic/Summon. If you use this combination on a weapon, you will attach a Property from the Magic or Summon. For example, if you equip Fire + Property, you will have made a Fire-based weapon. I’m getting sidetracked, but… equipping Fire + Property to your armour instead will halve the damage received from Fire-based attacks. Now, that’s a point… In the case of armours, there’s a bonus… When you level-up Property materia and apply it to an armour, your defence to Properties is increased. At first, the damage will be halved, then nullified, and finally, absorbed. Think about it. If you link a high-level Property materia to a Fire materia, you’ll have an armour that can absorb Fire-based attacks. Let’s take this further. Here’s how you use the Support materia called Added Effect. Added Effect is used to attach the effects of status changing materia onto weapons and armours. For example, if you link Added Effect with Poison on a weapon, your attack will inflict the status abnormality Poison. Of course, you have to do this properly. If you don’t link status changing magic like Confuse or Time with Added Effect, it’s pointless. If you want to see detailed information on Added Effects, select Status from the menu. If may look complicated at first, but take your time, and you’ll get there.

CLOUD (Materia division)

Ah, yes, division… another of my strengths. This sword of mine comes in real handy for that. Also, I’m often told I have a split personality. I don’t believe it myself, but who knows? Anyway… Once materia reaches its maximum level, it divides into two. The original materia will stop growing. It can still be used like before, but there will be no further changes. The newborn materia will start with zero AP, so it will need nurturing again from scratch. Once the new materia reaches its maximum level, it too will divide. This is the best way to increase your collection. Ha, ha… My head feels like it’s being divided with all this explaining!

CLOUD (Quantity allowed)

Once materia starts dividing more often, you’ll need to be careful. There’s a limit to how much of it you can carry. Since we’re now officially fighting to save the planet, it’d be against our principles to carry around a large amount of materia. Well, actually, I don’t agree. I’ll let you guess who came up with that one! So, we can only hold up to 200 materias, plus whatever’s equipped. If you have too many materias, you’ll need to ditch some. …I mean, give them back to the planet, of course! Otherwise you won’t be able to take on any more.

SHINRA-INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

Hello, Mr Expert! Please talk to me about Limit skills.

CLOUD

There’s not much to say…

  1. Developing new skills

  2. Ultimate skills

  3. That’s all (If selected, nothing happens.)

CLOUD (Developing new skills)

There are two main ways of building up your Limit skills. First, just use them a lot. Second, finish off as many enemies as possible. That’s easier said than done. Everyone knows this, but… when you learn a skill from a higher level, you need to set it in the menu. Whatever you do, don’t forget. You won’t be able to use the more advanced skills until you’ve mastered the basic ones first. The growth and type of Limit skills depend on the individual, so I guess I’ll just leave it at that.

CLOUD (Ultimate skills)

I hear a rumour some time ago about ultimate Limit skills. Supposedly, these skills can’t be gained in the usual way. That’s all I’ve heard about them though.

FLEXING GHOST 1 WITH HARD HAT NPC

Hey, how’s it goin’? This is the Beginners’ Hall (Resurrected Edition)! Your explanations were so complicated last time I couldn’t return to the planet. So, I’m here to ask you again.

Special Note: These explanations are for PC, not PS1.

CLOUD

What do you want to know?

  1. Recording the journey

  2. Healing a wounded ally

  3. Curative magic

  4. Weapons and armours

  5. Equipping materia

  6. Advanced use of materia

  7. Battle formation

  8. Checking current status

  9. Using Limit skills

  10. Other advice

  11. Nothing left to teach (If selected, nothing happens.)

CLOUD (Recording the journey)

Okay, I’ll tell you about saving. You know what’ll happen if you don’t save? That’s right… Everything you worked so hard to do will be lost! You never know when there’ll be a power outage, and you’ve got a long journey ahead of you. It pays to save ten and to take breaks whenever you need them. You can save your progress in the game on your computer’s hard drive. If you feel like e-mailing any of the save files to your friends, you can find them in the ‘save’ folder, in the same place you installed the game. So, when you’re ready to save, access the menu. Select save. Remember, you can’t just save wherever you want. You can only save at places that have a Save Point. When you find one, a message will appear. Whenever you reach a Save Point, you’ll probably want to save your game. There are 10 files located in these 2 rows. Choose a file for your current game. Each file can hold up to 15 games. This will save your progress to the computer’s hard drive. The screen only shows 3 saved games at a time, so press the Directions to scroll down the list, and you will see the rest. Remember, the more files you have the longer it will take to load. Well, that used to be the case anyway. One last thing… Don’t get mad, even if you lose. Let your head and your computer cool down. That’s all. Remember to save often, so you don’t lose your progress.

CLOUD (Healing a wounded ally)

If Cloud doesn’t have a potion…

First, I’m gonna need a Potion.

GHOST FLEXER 1 NPC

Man… Ex-Soldiers sure are cheap. Okay, I’ll give you ONE Potion.

If Cloud has 1 or more potions…

CLOUD

You probably already know this, but… HP is your life force. If all your HP is lost in battle, you are Knocked Out. MP is the source of your magic power. If all your MP is lost, you’ll be unable to cast spells. So, what should we do to cure a wounded ally? There are three ways. First, you can rest up at an inn. Second, you can use items to help them recover. Third, you can use curative magic. I’ll explain magic later, but, for now, let’s talk about items. Select Item from the menu. A Potion will restore HP. If you can’t find it, access the menu and select Order to change the order of your items. You can arrange them however you like. Order by items that can be used on the field, by items that can be used in battle, or by items that can be thrown in battle. Order weapons and armours separately. Alphabetical order. Order by most items held. Order by least items held. By the way, Key Items are just what they sound like— items that unlock problems like a key. They’re very important things to have. Keep that in mind. Okay, now select Use, then select Potion. Select the person you want to give it to. If their HP is maxed out, they won’t be able to use it. MP can be restored with Ethers. Use them in the same way as Potions. Just pick a member! The number appearing next to the item’s name tells you many are available. Of course, the more you use, the fewer you’ll have. Some enemies will drop Potions or Ethers, but it’s best to stock up whenever you’re at a store. One last thing… If someone in your party gets Knocked Out,

either rest at an inn or use a Phoenix Tail. That’s all!

CLOUD (Curative magic)

Here’s how to use curative magic. First, access the menu and select Magic. Next, select who will cast the spell. Pick an ally equipped with Restore materia. You can select another party member by using L1 and R1. This also works in other menus. Remember that. This is magic that you can cast, beasts that you can summon, and Enemy Skills that you’ve learned. Whenever Magic is selected, the available spells appear on screen. So, if you need to use Cure, select it from the menu, and then select the person you want to cast it on. I think Potions are pretty expensive, so… …I stay at an inn instead. It’s better to use curative magic than Potions. That’s all.

CLOUD (Weapons and armours)

Equipping a weapon and armour is vital for combat. Let me show you how it’s done. Finding or buying them isn’t enough – you also need to access the menu and select Equip. Select the person you want to add equipment to. You can change the weapon, the armour, and the accessory. Accessories have special effects. Select the one you want to change. On the right side of the screen, there’s a list of things that can be equipped. You can see their effects here. Change your weapon with O, then see how it affects your Attack and Defence. Pay special attention to the materia slots. Only slots that are linked will allow Added Effects. Also check the growth rate of materia. When you want to remove an accessory, press [triangle] here. You should never remove weapons or armours, because you’ll never know when you’ll be attacked. After you’ve finished altering equipment, you should re-equip your materia. That’s all.

CLOUD (Equipping materia)

Materia can unleash a hidden power in humans. Let’s see how it’s used… First, access the menu. Then, select Materia. Select who you want to use it. Pay close attention to my weapon. Like an armour, it has slots. Choose which slot you want to put the materia into. Now select the materia you want to use. This is Restore materia. If you want to know what its effect is, line the cursor up with Check, and press O. It’s like selecting battle commands. Just line the cursor up with Magic, and you can see that there are now more spells available. Now, you can use a new magic called Cure. And that’s all there is to equipping materia. See? It’s not so tough! When you want to remove a materia, it’s as easy as pointing to the materia slot and pressing [triangle]. There’s just one thing you have to watch out for… When you equip materia, your condition changes. Parts of you become stronger, while other parts become weaker. Normally, when you equip Magic materia,

your magic power becomes stronger, but your physical strength becomes weaker. So, materia’s kind of a double-edged sword. The left side of the screen shows the effect that materia has on you. It’s wise not to overuse Magic materia. Experiment with it on your own. That’s about it. I’ll explain some of the finer points next.

CLOUD (Advanced use of materia)

Access the menu when you find a materia. There are a lot of different types around. This is one of them. It’s called All. If you equip this on its own, nothing will happen. This is a little tricky, but I’ll tell you anyway… Look at my weapon. Look closely at these two slots. They’re linked together. Remember to put materia into linked slots. Different materias affect one another, but only if the slots are linked. Just to demonstrate this to you, let’s put an All materia into one of the slots… and a Lightning materia into the one it is linked with. Now, we can use Thunder on all of the enemies, but at the moment that’s limited to once per battle. Combine different materias, and you’ll come up with different results. Combining Restore and All… …will allow you to use Cure on your entire party. There are also many useless combinations…

For example, Restore and Lightning. Thunder and Cure can still be used as normal, but there won’t be any Added Ability. Types like All are known as Support Materia. You can tell the difference just by looking at the colour. This may sound weird, but… did you know that materia will grow on its own? Even if one of your allies is using it, it will continue to grow with each battle. As its level increases, so too will the effects of the magic. I told you that All materia works once per battle, but it can work more than once as it grows. If the materia reaches its Master level, it will divide – almost like it’s giving birth. A mastered materia won’t grow any further. When you can’t take on any more, you’re better off selling it or dumping it somewhere. The options are here. Tidy your materias, remove all materias from your weapon and armour,

or discard a materia. Hey, relax! I’m not going to dump it! Let’s see, this one’s a special menu. You can exchange the materia you have between allies, even if they’re not in your party. Now, about growth… The rate that your materia will grow depends on the weapon or armour it is placed into. Some will double the growth, while others won’t allow any growth at all. In most cases, the materia’s effect won’t change, whether you place it into a weapon or into an armour. But Properties and Added Effects have completely different results depending on where the materia is placed. You’ve got to think about what weapon or armour to use, And which combinations of materia will be the strongest. I remember hearing once that there are special materias somewhere in the world… Anyway, I think I’ve covered everything.

CLOUD (Battle formation)

Okay, I’ll explain your party’s order in battle. First, access the menu and select Form. Next, select who you want to switch. Now, select the position you desire. This will change the battle formation. It doesn’t provide any advantage or disadvantage. But when you select the same person twice, it will move them between the front row and the back row in battle. When they’re on the left side of the screen, that’ll be the front row. When they’re on the right, that’ll be the back row. When you’re in the front row and select Attack, you inflict greater damage on the enemy, but the damage you receive is also greater. While in the back row, although you do less damage to the enemy, you also receive less damage. For magic attacks, there’s no difference in damage between the front row and back row. There will also be no difference

when you’re using Long Range weapons. It’s better to keep weaker members in the back row. Of course, I always use the front row! That’s all.

CLOUD (Checking current status)

Always know your current status. That’s one of the basics of combat. Access the menu and select Status. Next, select the member you want to check up on. Are you surprised at the amount of information? I’ll explain it all. First, these are your Experience Points and Level. The more Experience that you gain in battle, the stronger you’ll become. This tells you how many points you require for the next Level. If you can’t beat stronger enemies, raise your Level by fighting weaker ones first. This will also improve your physical and magical skills. Next, there’s HP and MP. HP is your life force. If it reaches zero, you’ll be Knocked Out. MP is the source of your magic power. Every time you cast magic, you use MP. If you run out of MP, you’ll no longer be able to cast spells. You know that battle commands are classed into roughly two groups, right? Attack is used for regular physical attacks, while Magic and Summon are used to cast magical attacks. Magic and Summon materia will have an effect on the strength of your Attack and Defense, among other things. Your equipment and Experience have a big part to play as well. The total effect is displayed in the list below. These are the commands that you can use in battle, as well as your current weapon, armour, and accessory. Press O one more time. As you can see, there are many types of attack. Some monsters are weak against Fire— others are weak against Ice or Lightning. Items and materia can attack with these Properties or protect you from them. This list shows you the Properties that are in use. Press O one more time. Now the list is showing the Added Effects. Some enemies will use sneaky attacks on you. These attacks change your condition, such as… Sleep, Confusion, Poison, Darkness, Petrification, Silence, Minimum, and Frog. These conditions disappear after each battle, except Anger and Sadness, which will remain. To cure these conditions, use magic or items. There are specific remedies for each condition. I know I’m repeating myself, but… when an ally is Knocked Out in battle— that is, when they are almost dead, use a Phoenix Tail or the magic called Rise. When you change your materia or equipment, it’s a good idea to check the Status menu. Mastering Properties and Added Effects will make your battles safer and easier. That’s all.

CLOUD (Using Limit Skills)

Here are a few hints on Limit skills. When an enemy has pushed you to the limit, you can unleash unimaginable power. You know what I mean, right? The trick is in how to use it. Access the menu, and select Limit. Now, select a member, and decide which Limit level to use. Skills from lower levels are less powerful, but can be used more often. Conversely, skills from higher levels are more powerful, but can be used less often. By practicing your skills, you will learn how to devise new ones. The type of skills you develop will depend on your fighting style. It’s impossible to predict how you’ll mature. That’s something you’ll have to discover for yourself. I’ve heard a rumour about secret items that inspire ultimate skills… I don’t know whether or not those items really exist. That’s all! Experiment with everything, and use what works best!

CLOUD (Other advice)

This is common sense, but, just in case, I’ll go over it. Don’t open the CD drive or… Oh… Well, never mind!

FLEXING GHOST 2 NPC or FLEXING GHOST 3 NPC

Oh, wise ex-Soldier. I want my revenge! …I mean, review.

CLOUD

What do you want to review?

  1. ATB

  2. Numbers that appear

  3. Change and Defend

  4. Escape

  5. The gauges

  6. Status

  7. Properties

  8. My help

  9. Sorry, I’m done (If selected, nothing happens.)

CLOUD (ATB)

ATB, or Active Time Battle, refers to the system of time flow. If you select Wait, under ATB in the Config menu, time will stop while you choose magic or items. This makes it easier to select commands. Perfect for beginners like you. Similarly, if you set ATB to Recommended, time will stop during item and magic effects. This means you can easily keep an eye on the battle situation. Select this if you’re feeling pressured, okay? Personally, I always go with Active, but just pick whichever suits you.

CLOUD (Numbers that appear)

During battle, white numbers represent damage, and green numbers represent recovery. If you don’t want to be Wiped Out, you’d best pay attention to them.

CLOUD (Change and Defend)

The Change command can swap characters between the front and back rows. In the back row, you take less damage, but your attack power is also reduced. Change can be selected by pressing [left on D-pad] in the command window. Pressing [right on D-pad] will access Defend. Selecting Defend reduces the damage you receive by half, until the next turn. If you’re up against a strong enemy, don’t hesitate to use this. Of course, I never need to.

CLOUD (Escape)

I don’t use the Escape command, so I can’t remember all the details. But…you guys will probably need it. Hold L1 and R1. That should allow you to escape from battle.

CLOUD (The gauges)

You can’t check this at the moment, so it might be hard to understand, but listen up. I’ll tell you about the various gauges that are displayed during battle. The Time gauge represents the time remaining until your next turn. When a gauge is full, you can make a command. If you don’t want to make one, you can press [triangle] and switch to the next ally. It’s convenient when you want to make Barrett move his lazy arse. The Limit gauge increases each time you sustain damage. Once it is full, you can use a Limit skill. The gauge isn’t cleared after a battle, so it will build up over time. You shouldn’t use your Limit skill just because the gauge is full, either. It goes without saying that choosing the right moment to use it is critical. You probably don’t know this, so I’ll tell you. There are two status conditions known as Anger and Sadness. Anger causes your Limit gauge to build up faster, but your attack accuracy is reduced. Sadness causes your Limit gauge to fill up more slowly, but any damage you receive is reduced. The Barrier gauge represents two spells. The top bar displays Barrier: magic which protects against physical attacks. The bottom bar displays Magic Barrier: magic which protects against magical attacks. Both will halve damage respectively until their effect wears off. When you use spells that enable Barrier and Magic Barrier, remember to pay close attention to the gauges. That’s all there is to it. Check it out in your next battle.

CLOUD (Status)

Status means just that – the status of each character. I’ll probably wind up repeating myself, but let me go over this with you.

Sleep: You are unable to perform any action until you wake up.

Poison: Your HP is steadily decreases.

Anger: Quicker to reach your Limit, but attacks are less accurate. Cured with a Tranquilizer.

Sadness: Less damage is received, but it takes longer to reach your Limit. Cured with a Stimulant.

Petrification: You are turned into stone and cannot move. If the whole party is petrified, you are Wiped Out.

Confusion: You lose your mind and are unable to distinguish friend from foe.

Silence: You are unable to cast magic.

Paralysis: The Time gauge is frozen and command input disabled.

Berserk: You lose all control and attack wildly. Your attacks will be more powerful, however.

Minimum: You are reduced in size. Attacks will be ineffective.

Darkness: The accuracy of physical attacks is reduced.

Frog: You are turned into a frog. I hate it when this happens.

Phew… I’m beat. Status abnormalities can be cured with magic or items. It’s a good idea to check on your status before buying anything.

CLOUD (Properties)

Properties are the special abilities available to magic and weapons. They are essential for effective combat. If you can use Properties, then you’re already a competent fighter. I’ll give you a few examples. Just examples, mind you, so don’t swallow this whole.

Fire: Fire effect. Works well against beasts and Ice enemies.

Ice: Ice effect. Works well against Fire and Ice-fearing enemies.

Lightning: Electric effect. Works well against mechanical enemies.

Earth: The power of the land. No effect against flying enemies.

Poison: Inflicts Poison status. No effect against Poison-based enemies.

Gravity: An attack using gravity. This will hurt if it hits.

Water: Water – the planet’s blessing. Works well against Fire enemies.

Wind: Awakens the heavens. Works well against flying enemies.

Holy: Unlocks the planet’s power. Works well against dark monsters.

Using opposite Properties in your attacks can have powerful results. But be careful, because they can sometimes have a negative effect as well. You can use opposites to increase the efficiency of your defense. To see what Properties an enemy is weak against, you will need to use Sense. If you get ahold of that materia, you should definitely give this a shot.

CLOUD (My help)

There’s not much I can do if you’re unable to grasp my explanations. You must lack the brains for this. Well, don’t worry. Guys like you should press [start] during battle. The help message will do the rest. It can also show you the name of the enemy, so even I use it once in a while. Don’t be afraid to.

Cloud continues down the street to the harbour, passing where the Shin-Ra Troops had done the drill for Rufus.

SHIN-RA GUARD 1 NPC

President Rufus is being sent off at the harbour. I’d hurry if I were you.

Continuing on toward the harbour, Cloud enters into a long hallway, there is a doorway at the opposite end, blocked by a sailor.

SAILOR NPC

What do you want? The elevator is undergoing routine maintenance at the moment. It provides access to the Submarine Dock and the Undersea Mako Reactor.

Cloud continues on down the street.

SHIN-RA GUARD 2 NPC

Pointing down the street with his rifle.

Hey, how’s it going? If you’re looking for the harbour, it’s down that way.

As Cloud continues on, the Shin-Ra Captain NPC and two Shin-Ra Infantrymen NPCs from before are running toward the harbour. Running ahead of them are five strange looking Shin-Ra personnel, two infantrymen, one large sailor, one small sailor, and Red. There are also a number of shops in the area.

If Cloud enters the diner, he will find Zeng, Leno, and Yrena being served at the bar area.

ZENG

Mind your own business.

LENO

Now that we’re here, the president’s security will be flawless.

YRENA

These two always manage to shirk the ‘boring’ jobs…

BARTENDER NPC

Sorry, mister soldier, but you’re still on duty.

If Cloud enters the inn…

INNKEEPER NPC

You sure about this? Napping while on duty?

CLOUD

  1. 30 gil

  2. Never mind

JUNON INNKEEPER NPC (30 gil)

Stay as long as you like.

Cloud rests.

Good morning. Still a little sleepy? We look forward to seeing you again.

If Cloud has less than 30 gil...

Oh, knock it off already! You’re broke! You’ve no business being here!

JUNON INNKEEPER NPC (Never mind)

Oh, then come back again sometime.

If Cloud goes up the Inn’s first flight of stairs. There is a woman standing at the doorway of a room with two more inside.

WOMAN AT DOORWAY NPC

By all means, come in! Come in!

She runs inside. It’s a General Store with a gentleman behind a counter. The three women bow to Cloud.

WOMEN NPCs

Welcome!

WOMAN 1 NPC

Please head over to the counter.

WOMAN 2 NPC

Buy lots, cutie pie!

WOMAN 3 NPC

Heehee. <3 Smiles are on the house.

GENERAL STOREKEEPER NPC

There’s a lot of stores in Junon, you know. If I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t be able to compete.

He shrugs.

What’s worrying me is that the girls’ wages are higher than what I’m taking in.

Cloud exits the General Store and the women bow.

If Cloud bought something before exiting…

WOMEN NPCs

Thank you very much!

If Cloud heads up another flight of stairs, there’s another General Store, with an old man behind the counter.

OLD GENERAL STOREKEEPER NPC

I used to be in Soldier. Then I retired and opened this shop, but… …to tell you the truth, I’d rather work at the place downstairs.

If Cloud leaves the stores and enters another barracks. A Shin-Ra infantryman is lounging on a couch.

LOUNGING SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN NPC

Oi. You’re still on duty. Then again, I’m hardly qualified to grill people. Whatever you do, don’t turn into a slouch like me.

If Cloud goes up the stairs, he’ll find Shin-Ra Manager from Midgar lounging on a bed.

SHIN-RA MANAGER

This is inexcusable! And they told me I’d be staying at luxury hotels… How can you guys sleep in a place like this?

If Cloud exits the barracks and enters the second Junon Weapon Store…

WEAPON STOREKEEPER NPC

Oh! Welcome! We messed up the last restock, so there’s nothing that useful here. But feel free to look around.

Cloud browses, but the weapons supplied here aren’t as strong as the weapons sold at the other Weapon Store.

----------------------------------------------------

Cloud finally makes his way to the harbour. The Shin-Ra Captain NPC and other Shin-Ra Infantrymen NPCs are there. Red is watching from inside the opened cargo hold of the ship.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

TEN HUT! It’s time.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN NPC

President Rufus has arrived!

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Line up.

A door opens and Rufus and Heidegger come out and walk towards the group to watch.

This is it! The main event! The Junon military send-off! Do it with enthusiasm! Do it like a soldier! Ready…

Cloud and the Shin-Ra Infantrymen NPCs do the send-off. When finished, Rufus steps forward.

Special Note: The numbers are according to the Strategy Guide.

If Cloud did well, 100+…

RUFUS

Very impressive. Keep up the good work for our company.

Heidegger walks up.

HEIDEGGER

Gya, ha, ha! Here’s a special bonus for you. A token of the president’s good will. Don’t you forget it!

Obtained Force Eater!

If Cloud did okay, 60-90…

RUFUS

Very entertaining. Keep up the good work.

Cloud shrugs. Heidegger walks up.

HEIDEGGER

Gya, ha, ha! Here’s a special bonus for you. A token of the president’s good will. Don’t you forget it!

Obtained HP Plus materia!

If Cloud did poorly, 0-50…

RUFUS

Looks like you need more practice.

Cloud shrugs.

With performances like that, you’d best get ready for pay cuts.

Heidegger walks up.

HEIDEGGER

Gya, ha, ha! Here’s a special bonus for you. A token of the president’s good will. Don’t you forget it!

Obtained Silver Glasses!

Rufus and Heidegger begin to walk away and then have a side conversation.

RUFUS

If word gets out that Sephiroth passed through here, Cloud and the others will show up.

HEIDEGGER

We’ll crush them as soon as we find them!

RUFUS

We can’t have them interfering.

HEIDEGGER

Leave it to me. Gya, ha, ha!

Rufus waves his hand back and forth in front of his face.

RUFUS

I told you to stop making that ridiculous noise.

Rufus walks into the cargo hold of the ship.

HEIDEGGER

Gya…

Heidegger turns around and begins to charge at the soldiers, but the boat whistle sounds and he turns to follow onto the ship.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Dismissed!

Cloud shrugs. Shin-Ra Infantryman 2 NPC turns and faces Cloud.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

That was close.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

Heidegger’s been real edgy lately.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 1 NPC

I heard Hojo resigned and hasn’t been seen since.

SHIN-RA INFANTRYMAN 2 NPC

Heidegger’s been stuck with the search for him.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

Hey! I said dismissed!

Three of the infantrymen leave, but one gets on the ship.

SHIN-RA CAPTAIN NPC

There’s a lot of tidying up to do. Get a move on.

Shin-Ra Captain NPC leaves.

Special Note: Supposedly, the player should be able to talk to Red from where he is hiding before boarding the ship. But after numerous attempts, I was unable to for whatever reason.

Cloud then sneaks onto the ship and the screen fades to black.
